Celadon Travel Gongfu Tea Set, 11 Pieces — Ru-Style Crackle Glaze with Case

$49.00

Eleven small pieces — pot, cups, tray, towel — packed flat enough for a desk drawer. The glaze is Ru-style celadon with a fine crackle that starts as faint lines and turns amber with every pot of tea: your set becomes a record of everything you've brewed.

A Tea Table That Fits in a Drawer

Gongfu brewing asks for six or seven things on a table at once. Most of us don't have that table — we have a desk with a laptop on it. This set condenses the whole ritual into [FILL: 11] pieces that stack inside their own case: brew, pour, drink, close, done.

The glaze is Ru-style celadon — the pale blue-green of the Song dynasty kilns, with a fine crackle fired into the surface. That crackle is not damage and not decoration; it is the finish, and it changes with use.

What You Get

Celadon Travel Gongfu Tea Set, 11 Pieces — Ru-Style Crackle Glaze with Case

The Crackle Records Your Tea

New, the lines are pale grey — barely there, visible when light crosses the surface. Brew your first amber tea and pour the first rinse over the pot, and the crackle starts to take color. The lines darken at different speeds: fine cracks go golden first, wider ones later, and areas you touch most darken fastest.

After a few months of daily tea, the set looks like it has been used for years — because it has. The pattern is yours: your teas, your water, your hands. No two used Ru-ware sets look alike, which is why people who own one rarely buy a second identical one. They buy another color.

How to Use

  1. First use: rinse everything with warm water. No soap on the first wash — the unglazed foot and lid seat will take up the scent.

  2. Warm the pot and cups, add leaf, pour hot water just off the boil.

  3. Pour the first rinse over the closed pot — this both warms it and begins feeding the crackle.

  4. Empty to the last drop each brew; tea left standing keeps extracting and stains unevenly.

Care

Hand wash with warm water. No dishwasher, no microwave, and never move ceramic straight from cold to boiling — thermal shock is the only thing that genuinely breaks a set like this. Let pieces air-dry with the lid off before closing the case; sealed damp ceramic grows a smell you cannot wash out. The towel in the set is for the tray, not for polishing the glaze — celadon does not need polishing.

A Note on Variation

Crackle maps differently on every piece fired — that is the nature of the glaze, and the reason your set's pattern will not match the photograph. Small variations in tone (greener in shadow, warmer near the foot) are the kiln's signature, not a defect.
